We had our wedding at Barrister Gardens in St. Clair Shores on September 27, 2008. Overall I have to say I was very disappointed with the management of Barrister Gardens. HONESTLY, I AM NOT ONE TO COMPLAIN, but read on to see why I would not recommend them.
THE OWNER NEVER CALLED ME BACK
A week after the wedding, I called Barrister Gardens to talk to the owner. He was not available, so I left a message saying I needed to talk to him about our wedding. HE NEVER CALLED ME.
THEY GO BACK ON THEIR WORD
SCENERIO ONE: When I first signed the contract with them, I asked what came with the premium bar. The woman who no longer works there rattled off a list of top shelf liquor. The one thing we specifically remembered from her list was Captain Morgan’s because that’s what we drink and our friends. When we paid our final bill and verified menu and alcohol all of a sudden liquor that was supposed to be included in our premium bar was not, including Captain Morgan
SCENARIO TWO: We were unable to meet our minimum of 250 guests but we still had to pay for the minimum we agreed on. That was fine, but they told us we would only have to pay gratuity on the number that showed up. When we went in to pay our bill, another woman said they never do that and we had to pay gratuity on the minimum number, but we could take all left over food home. So the day of the wedding, they threw out all of the left over food.
UNORGANIZED AND UNPROFESSIONAL
SCENERIO ONE: When I went there to a few days before my wedding to show my aunt how to set up my tables, they lost track of my appointment – didn’t have a sample table set up in our hall, didn’t even know I was coming. When I made my appointment, I was told I could stay until 6pm when the office closed. I got there at 5:30pm and at 5:40pm the woman told me I needed to leave because her son was sick at daycare. I told her there was no other time I could come back before the wedding and I could not leave. So afterwards, she told me that we should’ve called and made an appointment. I told her I did call the previous week, and she told me I should’ve called the day before so “things would have been done right.” What you can’t do your job right the first time?
SCENERIO TWO: They gave me the wrong floor plan. I kept thinking it did not make sense how it was setup. It just seemed off. We went on with it and did our seating. Only to find out that they gave me the floor plan for a different room. If I hadn’t realized this before the wedding, our parents would have been sitting in the back corner and friends my husband worked with a few years ago would have been right in the front where our parents should be.
THEY THREW MY CAKE AWAY
I never even got to eat a piece of my own wedding cake. I was still at the hall and while they we taking everything down, I asked for the rest of the cake. They told me they already threw it away. I hadn’t even left yet and they threw it away! I am sooooo mad about that.
FOOD WAS DUMPED ON OUR GUEST
Flambé of Beef was part of our dinner. The table broke and Flambé of Beef went flying all over a few of our guest. The wait staff was very helpful and did help clean the guest up.
On the positive side, the food was outstanding and our wedding was a lot of fun. The wait staff was pleasant. The management is awful!
